Something Good-words and music by Luke Vassella 2017 Something good's going to come from this flood Something good's growing out of this mud How can this tragedy be understood? I tell you people get ready for something good I know March 31st brought heartbreak and pain I know people knocked down mightn't get up again I know I've seen anger and bitterness too I've seen people so sad they don't know what to do But something good's coming down the track Something good's going to bring it all back What hasn't killed you has called you by name To get out on the field boys and back in the game Something good's going to come from this flood Something good's growing out of this mud I know it's not easy to be understood I tell you people get ready for something good It's a time of renewal, it's a time of rebirth It's a time to regenerate on the good earth I'm not saying it's easy, I'm not saying it's cheap Gonna have to work hard, probably have to dig deep But something good's gonna come from this mess I see joy dancing through the distress I see thousands of people coming back to the heart On a brand new day with a brand new start Something good's going to come to this town Something good's going to turn things around I know, I know it doesn't look like it should I tell you people get ready for something good Lismore people get ready for something good Something good's going to come from this flood Something good's growing out of this mud How can this tragedy be understood? I tell you people get ready for something good People get ready for something good Lismore people get ready People get ready

Muddy Muddy Water-words and music by Luke Vassella 2017 In the last days of March 2017 The rain fell around Lismore the likes we've never seen It turned to muddy water Some people were ready, some were unprepared Some stayed and tried to fight, some were running scared From the muddy water See when Debbie'd finished Queensland she came down to do her worst Poured a witches brew around us as if the town was cursed With muddy water That Lismore levee held the deluge until it reached the top But the storm raged down the valleys and boys she wouldn't stop Hey, Hey, Hey, muddy muddy water Just like Jesus said the rain falls on the wicked and on the righteous too The good, the bad, the rich, the poor, there's nothing you can do To stop that water Down Keen to Woodlark into Molesworth and on to Magellan St Lismore city went down in the flood, no escape, no retreat From the muddy water You could hear the choppers chopping in the sky over your head As the swollen rolling river carried the living and the dead Filthy muddy water Even the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull came to see the damage done He got down on his hands and knees like he was trying to help someone Hey, Hey, Hey, muddy muddy water People everywhere were working trying to keep their faces brave To salvage for tomorrow, whatever they could save From the muddy water Then somebody shouted, "Suspend our foreign aid!" Made the man sound bankrupt, just like a puppet being played It'll make you sick, Kev don't drink the muddy water My friend you can axe the tax and stop the boats and blow smoke around the room But to clear the mud dumped on this country, you'll need more than a broom Hey, Hey, Hey, muddy muddy water Now there's rubbish piling higher on the side of every street We're all in it one way or another from our eyeballs to our feet Muddy water Maybe we'll build a bonfire to burn against the night But if we lift that levee higher, we better build it tight That's right you got to help a brother, got to help a sister too If we can't look out for each other, we're not going to make it through So people lift it higher and take it to a higher shelf And pray to God it's not too late to help your climate and yourself Hey, Hey, Hey, muddy muddy water You might say you've been delivered You might say that you've been damned But when the deluge beats the Lismore levee All God's children stand in muddy muddy water I'm talking about the last days of March 2017

My Lismore Friend-words and music by Luke Vassella 2017 What can I offer you my friend? What can I do to help things mend? No flood, no fear, no fire Can tame the heart's desire This trouble in your heart is going to pass, it's going to end My Lismore friend What can I possibly give you? What do you need to help you through? No flood, no fear, no fire Can tame the heart's desire This trouble in your heart is going to pass, it's going to end My Lismore friend What can I tell you you don't already know? To help that fire inside you glow? Keep faith, give hope, bring love These things I'm thinking of The great garden's gone, it'll grow again My Lismore friend No flood, no fear, no fire Can tame the heart's desire This trouble in your heart is going to pass, it's going to end My Lismore friend

about

The 2017 Lismore flood has seen residents and business owners pull together yet again as the town recovers, and local musician Luke Vassella felt compelled to write the goodwill he saw in song.
‘I was overwhelmed to witness the scale of the flood and inspired by the way my community came together’, he said. ‘I wrote these songs fairly quickly and was able to record them almost immediately.
The resulting EP Something Good, is Luke Vassella's 10th CD release. Recorded at Southern Cross University by Steve Law, it contains three songs about the flood event in Lismore on the 31st March 2017.
‘At the kind invitation of Prof. Barbara Rugendyke, I've recorded them at the Southern Cross University's recently refurbished sound studio’, said Vassella. ‘It's a very natural sounding record, just voice and guitar with a little foot stomping.'
Luke says the recording process was very straight forward. ‘The audio quality through the new SSL mixing desk is exquisite’, he says. ‘My talented friend Sam Kostevc has documented the studio process with three video clips of the songs which have received thousands of views online.
‘The CD cover photo is of my friend's waterlogged piano sitting in the garden. It seemed to capture something of the loss and devastation brought by the flood, yet at the same time convey a strange beauty.’
Luke has been a songman at the Lismore Car Boot market for the last 20 years, and will celebrate the launch of the CD there on Sunday June 4. Copies are available for just $5 on the day and are also available at Centrechurch Bookstore and Music Bazaar, Lismore.
Profits from the sale of the CD will be forwarded to Centrechurch Flood Relief Fund to help Lismore residents affected by the flood.
