Be Still My Soul

from 7 Songs by Luke Vassella

/

about

an interpretation of Psalm 37.
The words of Jesus in the sermon on the mount echo this song,
"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth"-Matt 5:5
The Greek word "praus" and "prautes" convey the idea of tenderness and graciousness, and can be accurately translated “meekness” and “meek” respectively. But unlike those English words, the Greek terms do not connote weakness but rather power under control. The adjective praus was often used of a wild horse that was broken and made useful to its owner.
For believers, to be gentle is to be willingly under the sovereign control of God.
"Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city."-Proverbs 16:32

lyrics

Be Still My Soul - an arrangement of Psalm 37 by Luke Vassella

Be still my soul, wait for the Lord
Do not worry because of evil men
Trust in the Lord and do good
Delight yourself in the Lord
He will give you the desires of your heart

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath
Do not worry, it leads only to evil
In a little while the wicked will be no more
Though you look for them, they will not be found
But the gentle will inherit the land

The wicked borrow and do not repay
But the righteous give generously
If the Lord delights in a man's way he makes his steps firm
Although he stumble, he will not fall
The Lord upholds him with his hand

So turn from evil and do good
You will dwell in the land forever
The Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones
They will be protected forever

But I've seen a wicked and ruthless man flourish like a green tree
But he soon passed away and he was no more
Though I looked for him he could not be found
Consider the blameless, observe the upright
There is a future for the man of peace

Be still my soul
Be still my soul
Be still my soul
Be still my soul
Be still my soul
Wait for the Lord
