Poured a witches brew around us as if the town was cursed
With muddy water
That Lismore levee held the deluge until it reached the top
But the storm raged down the valleys and boys she wouldn't stop

Just like Jesus said the rain falls on the wicked and on the righteous too
The good, the bad, the rich, the poor, there's nothing you can do
To stop that water
Down Keen to Woodlark into Molesworth and on to Magellan St
Lismore city went down in the flood, no escape, no retreat
From the muddy water
You could hear the choppers chopping in the sky over your head
As the swollen rolling river carried the living and the dead
Filthy muddy water
Even the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull came to see the damage done
He got down on his hands and knees like he was trying to help someone

People everywhere were working trying to keep their faces brave
To salvage for tomorrow, whatever they could save
From the muddy water
Then somebody shouted, "Suspend our foreign aid!"
Made the man sound bankrupt, just like a puppet being played
It'll make you sick, Kev don't drink the muddy water
My friend you can axe the tax and stop the boats and blow smoke around the room
But to clear the mud dumped on this country, you'll need more than a broom
